Las Vegas Monorail Welcomes 50 Millionth Rider

The Las Vegas Monorail Company celebrated the Monorail’s 50 millionth rider on Thursday, Dec. 1, marking a milestone for the Las Vegas Strip transportation system. The official 50 millionth rider was Richard Cabrera, a resident of Houston, Texas. Cabrera and guest Melisa Perez were greeted with a Las Vegas gift basket filled with prizes and souvenirs at the MGM Grand Monorail Station.

“Dec. 1 is a notable day for the Las Vegas Monorail,” said Ingrid Reisman, vice president of corporate communications for the Las Vegas Monorail Company. “Since opening, we have provided mobility and access to more than fifty million riders. The 3.9-mile Las Vegas Monorail ranks among the best rail systems in the U.S. in terms of the number of riders carried per mile of track and revenue earned per mile. We’re honored to help thousands of people travel the busy Las Vegas Strip every day, and will continue to provide the highest quality of service for our customers.”

In 2010, the Monorail reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 37 tons and eliminated an estimated 2.4 million vehicle miles that would have otherwise congested Las Vegas roadways. In addition, during large conventions like CES, SEMA, NAB and World of Concrete, the Las Vegas Monorail carries an average of 70,000 people into and out of the Las Vegas Convention Center over the course of each four-day event.

Cabrera was presented with a Las Vegas gift basket containing Las Vegas Monorail tickets; an MGM Grand prize pack including a one night stay in a deluxe room at MGM Grand, dinner for two at any MGM Grand restaurant ($150 value), two tickets to KA by (Cirque du Soleil), and two tickets to CSI: The Experience; a complimentary helicopter tour for two to the Grand Canyon provided by Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters; two tickets to Madame Tussauds Las Vegas; and a ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ replica sign provided by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority along with other souvenirs.
