LAS VEGAS (April 2016) – Nevada residents with valid identification can purchase $1 fares for the Las Vegas Monorail every day of the year. For locals looking for a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to navigate the Strip, there is no better option than the Monorail. With the addition of the T-Mobile Arena to the Strip’s busy entertainment landscape, the Monorail provides easy transport along the Strip during high-attendance events, all the way from the SLS Las Vegas to MGM Grand.

“We established the $1 local fare to provide another way to conveniently and cost-effectively participate in events and activities that take place in the Strip corridor of our community,” explains Ingrid Reisman, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Las Vegas Monorail. “With awareness of mass transit’s benefits increasing in Southern Nevada, we hope local residents will consider taking the Monorail when visiting the Strip.”

With a stop at the Las Vegas Convention Center, as well as a direct connection to eight properties with more than 26,000 hotel rooms, the Las Vegas Monorail is not only economical, but also the most convenient mode of Strip transport—especially when the city hosts major events. Riding the Monorail allows savvy locals to avoid the Strip’s traffic congestion, especially on weekends and in conjunction with major sports events, concerts and conventions.

The Las Vegas Monorail is Southern Nevada’s mass transit option that has been lowering travelers’ environmental footprint since opening in 2004. In 2015, its zero-emissions trains reduced toxic emissions by 29.6 tons of carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrous oxides (NOx) and eliminated more than 2.3 million vehicle miles. The system has carried more than 70 million riders since opening.

Locals’ discounted fares are available at the customer service ticketing offices & desks, whose locations and hours follow:

  • Bally’s/Paris Station: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily
  • Flamingo/Caesars Palace Station: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily

The Las Vegas Monorail provides a quick and convenient connection along the Las Vegas Strip, linking riders to world-class restaurants, shows, shops, day/nightclubs, spas, hotels and casinos. In minutes, Monorail riders can travel the famous Las Vegas Strip in a safe, comfortable and clean environment – without the hassles of traffic or wasted time. Currently, the privately funded Monorail system includes seven stations: MGM Grand; Bally’s/Paris Las Vegas; Flamingo/Caesars Palace; Harrah’s/The LINQ; Las Vegas Convention Center; Westgate Resort & Casino and SLS Las Vegas. Las Vegas’ “green” public transportation choice, the Monorail’s electric trains are zero-emission vehicles. 7 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day began in 1970 when John McConnell proposed that we set aside one day to promote peace and honor Earth. McConnell was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and on April 22nd, 193 countries including the United States will celebrate Earth Day.

Get outside!

Take your dog for a walk, go to the park or take your morning exercise routine outside. Use Earth Day as an opportunity to appreciate and enjoy Mother Nature. There’s almost nothing better than fresh air and sunshine.

Visit a National Park

National Park Weeks runs through April 24th and all entrance fees for the 411 National Parks will be waived. If you’re in Las Vegas, we recommend Lake Mead, Death Valley, or Zion. You can also use the Nation Park Service’s Find Your Park tool to find one near you.

Find an alternative mode of transportation

In the United States, cars produce one-third of all air-pollution. On Earth Day try an alternative form of transportation; ride your bike, take public transportation or carpool.

Try eating vegetarian or vegan

Eat those fruits and vegetables your doctor always talks about and make an earth-friendly choice. Try a smoothie! They’re so delicious that you might forget that it’s good for you.

Support Green Businesses

Celebrate and thank those businesses who go the extra mile to promote and use environmentally friendly products and practices.

Invest in a reusable water bottle

Americans used 50 billion plastic water bottles last year—that’s a ton of waste that ends up in our nation’s landfills. Purchase a reusable water bottle and make a habit of bringing it with you. Not only will this practice save you money, it will also keep you healthy and hydrated.

Ride the Monorail!

The Las Vegas Monorail is completely electric and run zero emissions trains. In 2015, the Las Vegas Monorail aided in the annual removal of an estimated 2.3 million vehicle miles from Southern Nevada’s major roadways. That’s ten trips to the moon!

The Monorail is also responsible for reducing emissions by more than 29.5 tons of carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) over the course of the year. That’s the equivalent of equivalent of 24 black rhinoceros!

To celebrate Earth Day, you can purchase one 2-Day Pass and get another for FREE! That’s right; we’re offering buy-one-get-one free 2-day passes. Just use code GREEN16 when purchasing your tickets online or at one of our etickting kiosks. It’s that easy!

Need a Charge?

We know how it is. That feeling when you realize that you have 6% battery left on your phone and you need a charger pronto! Las Vegas is not the place for a social media cleanse. You have photos to take, and thoughts to tweet.

The Las Vegas Monorail has the solution. We partnered with MobileQubes to make sure you can stay connected. No more asking your friends to use their phones, or worse, going without.

How does it work?

MobileQubes provides portable battery rentals for mobile devices. It’s like your favorite DVD rental service but for a portable charger.

You can rent or purchase a battery pack – or Qube – that you can return later. After you pick up your MobileQube at one of our stations, you can return at any of their kiosks. You can find them in airports, hotels, convention centers, professional sports arenas and casinos.

The qubes are compatible with both iPhone and Android devices.  The best part? There’s no cord or need for a power source. You can also recharge the Qube in case your phone just can’t keep up with your Vegas lifestyle.

The matchup is personal, and it’s certain to capture the attention of fans not only in Las Vegas but also worldwide.  You can see the full fight card here.

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm will also take on Miesha Tate in the UFC 196 co-main event. The two are friendly, but focused and looking forward to the matchup.

Tickets for the event went on sale Friday, January 22nd, but if you don’t have a ticket for the big fight, there are still plenty a few great seats remaining to take in the action. You’re certain to find committed fans at the MGM Race and Sports Book.
