The Las Vegas Monorail be running around the clock on New Year’s Eve! We’re here to help you have a Las Vegas New Year’s Eve to remember for years to come!
New Year’s Eve Hours of Operation
That Las Vegas Monorail will be open continuously through New Year’s Eve and into New Year’s Day to make traveling along the Las Vegas Strip easy, convenient, and fast. We will be open on December 31, 2019, starting at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 2 a.m. on January 2, 2020. That’s 43 straight hours of ringing in the New Year!
Last year, an estimated 300,000 people gathered along the Las Vegas Strip. Seasoned party-goers know that the Las Vegas Monorail is the solution for getting to and from the festivities safely.
Road Closures on New Year’s Eve
The Las Vegas Strip shuts down to traffic again this year to throw one of the biggest NYE parties in the world!
Road closures will begin as early as 4:00 pm on New Year’s Eve and continue until 4:00 am on New Year’s Day. With road closures in place and more than 300,000 visitors along the Strip, the Las Vegas Monorail is the best way to travel along the Strip.
To travel across the Strip, use the Desert Inn super-arterial. For north and southbound travel, use Frank Sinatra Drive or Koval Lane to the east. Keep in mind that these routes are likely to be quite busy as well!
Traffic will start to stack up early in the afternoon, so plan accordingly. It also doesn’t hurt to plan on being patient. When you combine 300,000 visitors with road closures, you should expect that getting around will be a bit of a challenge.
Safety and Security on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas
To keep everyone safe this holiday season, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will be enforcing restrictions beginning at 6:00 p.m. on December 31st. Limitations will continue until 6:00 a.m. on January 1st.
The following items will not be permitted on the Las Vegas Strip or the Las Vegas Monorail:
- Strollers, carts, luggage or coolers
- Backpacks, purses, or bags that are larger than 12″x6″x12.”
Exceptions may be made for those needing medical or mobility devices.
New Year’s Eve Las Vegas Trips and Tricks
Don’t forget about the weather
While we’re quite lucky to enjoy pleasant weather during the winter, it can still be quite cold at night. If you plan to spend any time outside, don’t forget to bring a jacket. Certainly, check the weather, but you can expect midnight temperatures to be in the 30s.
For the very best view, you will want to find a patio, roof deck, or even the top of a parking garage. It might seem like being out on Las Vegas Blvd is the best idea, but with so many people and very tall buildings, you might end up in a spot with no view at all.
Fireworks can be seen above or near The STRAT, Treasure Island, Venetian, Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Aria, and MGM Grand.
Just because it’s 2020, doesn’t mean the party will stop. Many events will continue until the wee hours of the morning. As we mentioned, you can expect the Las Vegas Strip to remain closed until 4 am or even later.
Many of the properties on the Las Vegas Strip may require you to show proof that you are staying with them. With over 300,000 people celebrating, they have to be mindful of occupancy limits and safety.
