Las Vegas Monorail Welcomed 40 Millionth Rider

Michael Reinhardt resident of Shelton, Conn. was greeted with Vegas fanfare as he entered Monorail faregates

The Las Vegas Monorail Company celebrated the Monorail’s 40 millionth rider on Saturday, Dec. 19,  marking a milestone for the Las Vegas Strip transportation system. The official 40 millionth rider was Michael Reinhardt, a resident of Shelton, Conn. Reinhardt and wife Dilek were greeted with a gift basket filled with Las Vegas fanfare at the Horseshoe/Paris Station.

“This is a moment worthy of recognition,” said Ingrid Reisman, vice-president of corporate communications for the Las Vegas Monorail Company. “Forty million riders on just 3.9 miles of system is significant.   In fact, the Las Vegas Monorail carries more passengers per mile than any other rail system in the U.S.  We’re proud to contribute to Resort Corridor mobility and are pleased that so many visitors continue to choose the Las Vegas Monorail as their transportation option.”

In 2008 alone, the Monorail reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 61 tons and eliminated an estimated 3.4 million vehicle miles that would have otherwise congested our Las Vegas roadways.  In addition, during large conventions like CES, SEMA, NAB, and World of Concrete, the Las Vegas Monorail carries more than 70,000 people into and out of the Las Vegas Convention Center over the course of each four-day event.

The Reinhardts were presented with an oversized commemorative Monorail ticket and a Las Vegas gift basket containing Las Vegas Monorail tickets, a dining certificate for the Hard Rock Cafe, tickets to Madame Tussauds Las Vegas, a complimentary airplane/helicopter tour for two to the Grand Canyon provided by Papillon Grand Canyon Scenic Airlines, tickets for two to Legends in Concert at Harrahs Las Vegas and Donny & Marie at the Flamingo Las Vegas, and an assortment of Las Vegas souvenirs provided by the Las Convention and Visitors Authority and other Monorail partners. They were in Las Vegas for both business and leisure travel.
